Ildikó Barna, PhD

Ildikó BARNA is a sociologist. She is an Associate Professor at ELTE University Faculty of Social Sciences Budapest, where she also serves as Head of the Department of Social Research Methodology. Her research topics include antisemitism, xenophobia, post-Holocaust studies, and quantitative research on archival sources. Recently, her interest turned to the research of online hate speech using automated text analysis. She took part in numerous research projects. Her most recent ones include Countering Antisemitism Through Testimony with the USC Shoah Foundation, “The Jews in Hungary 2017”, survey research together with Prof. András Kovács. Her ongoing research projects include “Hungarian Jewish Displaced Persons and Refugees after the Holocaust” and a research project with the Tom Lantos Institute on Modern Antisemitism in the Visegrád Countries. She is a member of the MTA-ELTE Lendület SPECTRA (Social prerequisites for the effective fight against bias-motivated crimes through criminal law and minority rights protection) Research Group. Ildikó Barna is currently the fellow of the János Bolyai Research Fellowship of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
